Spain - Language and Culture Assistants

This program, sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Education allows young Americans to teach English in Spain. The Assistants receive a grant in Spain to provide support to English or French teachers in language and culture classes. They also have the opportunity to learn about the Spanish language and culture and use their experience upon their return to the United States or Canada, thus developing cultural understanding between the citizens of Spain and the United States of America and Canada.

The Spanish Autonomous Regions assign all candidates an Elementary or Secondary School. Candidates may not choose a particular city. The Ministry and some of the Regional Education Authorities will organize orientation seminars at the beginning of the school year.

Students are encouraged to apply early. Preference is given to early applicants.

The application for the 2012-2013 program will be available from November 1, 2011 - March 30, 2012.

France - Teaching Assistant Program

The initiative aims to strengthen English-language instruction in French schools through the establishment of a native speaker presence, while also providing Francophiles and future teachers of French in the U.S. with teaching experience and first-hand knowledge of French language and culture. Nearly 1,500 positions are available each year for U.S. citizens and permanent residents in metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and La Réunion.
