Introduction
The School of Engineering (SOE) of the Catholic University of America (CUA) has established a student exchange program with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Through the established student exchange program, qualified engineering students at CUA may study abroad at PolyU during the second semester of their junior year.

The City
Hong Kong is a dynamic and prosperous metropolitan city with a population of about 7 million. Though it became a part of the People's Republic of of China in 1997, the region still maintains its own currency, legal system, and political system. Described as a place where east meets west, as the region is rich in ancient Chinese tradition but heavily influenced by the history of British colonization.
 

Facilities
PolyU is strategically located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a site of approximately 93,500 square metres adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. There has been extensive development and rapid expansion since the last 10 years.

 

Academics and Curriculum
The CUA engineering programs including biomedical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering and computer science have developed modified curricula for their study abroad students to ensure that the participating students graduate on time.



Courses and credits
Students will be enrolled in a School of Engineering education abroad course (ENGR 399) of 15 semester credit hours (SCH) for the study abroad semester. Class formats are in lecture, tutorial, and projects.
All courses are taught in English at PolyU, thereby requiring no Chinese language proficiency. Students, however are encouraged to take some beginning courses of Chinese languages before going abroad.


Accommodation and Meals
Students will reside in PolyU Student Halls of Residence or the YWCA Anne Black Guest House.Meals are not included.

Program Costs
CUA tuition and approximately $1,055 program fee to cover most overseas expenses. Round-trip airfare, passport, airport reception, meals, and personal expenses are not included. Contact CUAbroad for an estimated cost breakdown sheet.

Eligibility
Applicants must have junior standing at CUA's School of Engineering by the time the program begins, enrolled full-time at the time of application and in good academic standing, and not on disciplinary probation. A minimum cumulative G.P.A. requirement is 3.0.
